Geelong Cricket Association

About the Association

The Geelong Cricket Association is a 24 club turf based competition played in two divisions.

Each Division is of four grades and District Fifths and Sixths complete the ten grades of senior competition. The Association was formed in 1896 when six teams fought for inaugural premiership honours.

Season 2000/01 sees 114 teams compete in the ten senior sections as well as some 190 Junior teams honing their skills. The Geelong area boasts 32 Milo-Have-a-Go squads as healthy evidence of the region’s commitment to the development of the game.

Each season the Association conducts a one day knock out competition for its clubs as well as inviting representative teams from other Barwon region associations such as Geelong Churches, Bellarine, Colac and Southern/Leigh.

The Association actively promotes all levels of VCA pathways and representative competitions as well as conducting a local junior country week. At senior level the GCA boasts a proud record of VCCL Country Week participation since that competition’s commencement.

As a leading cricket body in the state the Association is proud of its commitment to cricket at all levels both playing and in administration. Current VCA luminaries such as President Bob Merriman, Jason Bakker, Brian McFadyen, Ken Davis, Bruce Nunn, Stephen Field and Andrew Kelly have all developed and honed their various skills in Geelong cricket. As has long serving VCCL Secretary Ed Parker.

With over 3,500 players competing on a weekly basis from a regional population of 200,000 Geelong cricket is in a healthy state actively promoting the great game of cricket.
