Sporting Pulse Hits Airwaves
with Tim Michell & Crew

A new sports radio program is on the airwaves in Geelong, with Pulsating Sports debuting on 94.7, The Pulse in recent weeks. The show features a number of budding sports journalists from around the region, discussing all the sporting issues of the week, including local, national and international sport, with a special focus on local cricket, including the all three GCA Divisions.

The crew includes: Tim Michell, Daniel Hill, GOTV’s own Cal Lowther, AJ Brady, Jake Bourke and our newest recruit Liam Renny.

The show airs on Sunday nights from 8pm until 9. For all those interested in the local cricket, we also have a local cricket show which is on our web page: www.myspace.com/pulsatingsports which wraps up all of the local cricket action from the weekend.

Regular segments include Tims Top Five, Lowthers Liability, Hill’s Hard Hitters and also Bourkey’s Best Bets, in which Jacob points you in the right direction betting wise, something that will become more handy over the course of the Spring Carnival.

The show also includes a talkback segment, in which we take calls throughout the hour. Anyone wishing to give their opinion on any sporting issue can give us a call each Sunday night using the Pulse’s number, 5222 5947. We can also be contacted mid week through pulsatingsports@live.com

Be sure to tune in over the coming weeks for a comprehensive wrap of the week in sport, and a first hand look at all the weekend’s action in local cricket.

Umpires play an important role in cricket.

There are many opportunities existing for anyone who may be interested in becoming a cricket umpire.  The Geelong Cricket Umpires Association has a structured career program open to any person wishing to become involved in all levels of cricket.

The GCUA umpires advisor Mr. Bill Sheehan assist new and old members in all aspects of the game.  He teaches and develops the skills required to become an umpire.  He resources the members when courses and seminars are available through Cricket Victoria and provide skills, fitness, interpretations of Laws and Playing Conditions and performance reviews in between match commitments.

The GCUA are always on the look-out for new people (younger or older – past or present players) to join their Association in becoming and Umpire.  All prospective umpires are encouraged to complete a Level 1 coaching accreditation course and can go from local and district level, to state panels and Cricket Australia contracts. It’s all up to the individual how far you wish to go. It’s taking the first step that counts
The Geelong Cricket Umpires Association officiate games for the Geelong Cricket Association for both Turf and Hard wicket games. A selection panel is responsible for appointing umpires for these matches, with a reasonable remuneration paid to umpires.

Download Registration Form

All clubs have now been issued with their login details to the new Cricket Australia My Cricket online system. Please get your data administrators to take some time to login and familiarize themselves as much as possible with the site. As of now clubs are able to register their players, generate and respond to clearance requests and assign administrator roles within your club. One of the most urgent is to follow the link on your front page for notifications, and fill in the details. This will allow your club to be notified via email of anything that involves you such as clearance requests etc.

A number of clubs have already generated clearance requests so please all clubs check to see if you need to respond to a request. You can check on your administration page under the people drop down menu, then players, and permit and clearances list. This will show you if any player registered to you has applied for a clearance to another club.

For the next few weeks you will be able to complete your administrative tasks prior to the commencement of the season. I encourage all users to visit the support site included as a link on your welcome email, and also from the help menu on your home page, it is very well put together and has a vast library of helpful information with clearly explained help topics for all tasks you will need to complete prior to the commencement of the season.

The training session being run by Cricket Victoria for the match data input which was scheduled for Sun the 28th at 10:00 am has been pushed back to 12:00 noon to cater for those still celebrating whatever the Grand Final result, unfortunately we were unable to get an alternate date, but at least this is a more palatable time. This is the only training we will be receiving from Cricket Victoria and as such will require compulsory attendance by at least one attendee from each club.
